The Teachings of Jesus – 6 Universal Lessons
The Teachings of Jesus Christ are full of valuable insights. They don’t just apply to Christians, but to other religions too. Here are a few of the teachings of Jesus and the scriptural references.
Lesson #1 – “God is available to help resist temptation” (1 Cor. 10:13). No matter what your religious affiliation, you likely have moral rights and wrongs you live by. When you come under temptation to pursue wrong or immoral ways, Jesus taught they could be defeated by turning them over to God.
Lesson #2 – “Jesus showed compassion for everyone and so should we” (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus helped everyone while on earth; he didn’t discriminate. He actually sought out those less fortunate and ignored by most of society. This is a valuable lesson for anyone to follow, Christian or not.
Lesson #3 – “Jesus emphasized to His followers to be sincere, not a hypocrite” (Matt. 7:5). True sincerity and honesty is valued highly in most religions and cultures, therefore, this lesson transcends such boundaries.
Lesson #4 – Jesus instructed, “Honor your mother and father” (Matt. 19:19). As one of the Ten Commandments, Jesus taught the importance of this valuable message. Every single person in the world has parents, and therefore, anyone can follow this direction.
Lesson #5 – Jesus preached, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matt. 5:44). How amazing would the world be if everybody followed this basic principle? It would lead to a much happier and more peaceful world, regardless of who or what you place your faith in.
Lesson #6 – The most known of all of Jesus’ teachings, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:39). This directive of pure, unconditional love transcends all worldly boundaries of race and religion. These six lessons illustrate just some of what other religions can learn from Jesus Christ.
